· Examinations
Eye examinations at Drs. Kline, Boyd and Chivers utilize state of the art ophthalmic equipment. Your doctor will personally conduct the examination to determine your eyeglass and/or contact lens prescription. The eye will be examined with a slit lamp microscope to diagnose diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts and retinal degeneration. Among the specialized tests available when indicated are retinal photography, corneal topography, optic nerve scanning and optomap retinal imaging. Your eye health is our utmost concern.

Optomap Retinal Exam

Many eye problems can develop without warning and progress with no symptoms. Our doctors are concerned about retinal problems including macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal tears or detachments, as well as other health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Early on, you might not even notice any change in your vision. However, these conditions can develop and change within a year so it is necessary to have an Optomap every year. Annual exams that include looking at the retina are vital to maintaining your vision and overall health.

An Optomap exam provides:
  • A scan to confirm a healthy eye or, to detect the presence of disease.
  • An overview or map of the retina, giving your doctor a more detailed view than can be achieved by other means.
  • The ability for you to view last year’s scan and this year’s scan side by side for comparison and analysis with your doctor during your exam.
  • An annual, permanent record for your medical file, which gives your doctor comparisons for tracking and diagnosing potential eye disease.
  • Important information for you and your doctor to help protect your vision.

· Pediatric Eyecare
InfantseeInfantSEE is a program in which optometrists will provide a one time, comprehensive eye assessment to infants between six and twelve months of age, offering early detection of potential eye and vision problems at no cost regardless of income. Through the InfantSEE program, we hope to prevent and help reduce the threat of serious vision impairments. The Infantsee assessment is not designed to compete with or be a substitute for the well-baby infant examinations provided by your pediatrician, but rather is a useful adjunct to traditional pediatric care.

· Dry Eye Syndrome Therapy
Dry Eye syndrome is actually a collection of symptoms that make up an eye condition that stems from an imbalance in the quantity or the quality of tears. The symptoms include dry, red, gritty and even watery eyes. Often, dry eye sufferers report the feeling of something foreign within the eye or eyestrain.

We offer many different therapies for dry eye. Ocular lubricants, punctual occlusion, nutritional supplements, and prescription eye drops to increase tear production are among the options. We often start dry eye treatment with lubricant therapy, but when that is not adequate, we may consider punctual occlusion. This painless, in-office procedure involves the insertion of small plugs in the corner of the eyes to slow drainage and loss of tears. During your examination, your doctor will be able to determine the best method of treatment for you.
